Reconnect and Strengthen Your Relationship with Gottman Trained Couples Therapist.

Are you experiencing a lack of confidence in your intimate relationship? Do you feel disconnected, unfulfilled, and like you’re not enough? Do you at times ask yourself, “Why do I feel unloved in my relationship”? Do you and your partner constantly argue about the same issues and feel misunderstood, criticized, and unheard?

Knew You Psychotherapy can help.

Couples therapy is a form of therapy that helps couples navigate the challenges they face in their relationship. Whether it’s issues with communication, intimacy, or trust, couples therapy provides a safe and supportive environment where couples can work through their problems and strengthen their relationship.

Knew You Therapists teach couples about the importance of emotional safety and how to build it. They also help couples improve their communication skills to turn arguments into healthier discussions, leading to increased emotional and physical intimacy. If you’re looking to strengthen your relationship and increase emotional trust, Knew You Psychology therapists can guide you on this journey.

How does beginning therapy work at Knew You Psychotherapy?

At Knew You Psychotherapy, therapy begins with a free 15-minute consultation call with one of our Intake Coordinators.

During the consultation, you and the intake coordinator will have a chance to further discuss what is bringing you to therapy, your therapeutic goals, your therapeutic history, and answer any questions you may have. The intake coordinator will also help determine the therapist who is the best match for you and schedule your first appointment.

Our Approach To Couples Counseling

Knew You Psychotherapy uses the Gottman approach, which is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy that has been around since the 1980s. This approach includes a variety of therapeutic interventions and techniques that help couples build stronger relationships. The Gottman approach is based on the idea that couples need to create a strong foundation of friendship and emotional safety to build a healthy, thriving relationship.

Therapists at Knew You Psychotherapy help couples build this foundation by teaching them to communicate effectively, resolve conflicts constructively, and create a shared sense of meaning in their relationship.

One key aspect of the Gottman Method is the “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.” These are four negative communication patterns that can be destructive to a relationship: criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and stonewalling. Therapists at Knew You Psychotherapy help couples identify these patterns and replace them with more positive, productive communication.

Another important aspect of the Gottman approach is the concept of “love maps.” Love maps are the knowledge each partner has of the other’s inner world, including their likes and dislikes, hopes and dreams, fears and anxieties, and more. Therapists at Knew You Psychotherapy help couples build their love maps by encouraging them to ask each other questions and actively listen to each other’s answers.

In addition to teaching couples how to communicate effectively and build emotional safety, therapists at Knew You Psychotherapy also help couples identify how childhood wounds may be impacting their relationship. Childhood wounds can include experiences of trauma, neglect, or emotional abuse, and they can have a lasting impact on a person’s ability to form healthy relationships. By helping couples identify and heal these wounds, therapists at Knew You Psychotherapy can help couples build a stronger and more resilient relationship.

As a result of Knew You Psychotherapy’s approach, we help couples create a happy, healthy, and thriving relationship.
