Codependency is a pattern of behavior in which an individual becomes overly involved in the needs and problems of others, often at the expense of their own well-being. People who struggle with codependency may find it difficult to set and maintain healthy boundaries, and may have difficulty identifying and expressing their own needs and emotions. This can lead to a variety of challenges, including:
• Surrender power to avoid conflict
• Suppression of one's preferences, decisions, and/or desires to possibly avoid rejection.
• Involved in intimate partner violence
• suppression of one's emotional expression (anger, frustrations)
• Feeling used
• Porous boundaries
• Avoids confrontation
• Difficulty taking care of their own needs
• A tendency to put the needs of others before their own
How does therapy work at Knew You Psychotherapy?
At Knew You Psychotherapy, therapy begins with a free 15-20 minute consultation call with one of our Intake Coordinators. During the consultation, you and the intake coordinator will have a chance to further discuss what is bringing you to therapy, your therapeutic goals, your therapeutic history, and answer any questions you may have. The intake coordinator will also help determine the therapist that is the best match for you and schedule your first appointment.
